Biography

Dr Karol S. Sikora FICE holds BSc and MSc degrees in civil engineering from the Warsaw University of Technology, Poland (master project at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium) and an MA in management from the Warsaw School of Economics, Poland. PhD degree from the Glasgow Caledonian University, UK in collaboration with L’École Spéciale des Travaux Publics (Paris), France. From 2013 he worked as Postdoctoral Researcher and Adjunct Lecturer at the National University of Ireland, Galway, later from 2016 was a Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), located in Suzhou, China until 2018, when he joined the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UWOD) where he leads Civil Engineering Program. 

Dr. Sikora’s work was published in over 50 peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, and he has presented at over 30 international conferences and workshops, being invited as a speaker on a dozen occasions. He was Co-Chair of the 44th International JVE Conference, Dubai, and Guest Editor of the proceedings from The Third International Conference on Smart Technologies for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development (ICSTEESD-2020), Nagpur, India. He is a Scientific Editorial board member of Materialy Budowlane, one of the oldest (published since 1946) peer-reviewed technical and scientific journals in Poland. He was also a member of 3 COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) Actions related to the timber engineering field. Moreover, he was a Member of the Timber Standards Consultative Committee in Ireland. In 2019 Dr. Karol Sikora was awarded Fellowship at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
